802.15 WPAN |
802.15 WPAN (Wireless Personal Area Networks) is standard for
wireless network communication in relatively short distance.
This standard makes the portable mobile device such as PDA,
Laptop, Mobile Phone, MP3 player communicate to other devices
with wireless environment.
802.15.1 is developed based on Bluetooth TM v1.1 standard, each
SAP(Service Access Point) are defined through SCO, L2CAP, LLC,
HCI on RF, Baseband of Bluetooth.

802.15.2 is standard for coexistence of WPAN(802.15) and WLAN(802.11).
Generally, because WPAN and WLAN use 2.4GHz ISM Band, the interference
between two devices can occur. To solve the problem, IEEE802.15.3
Task Group has developed Coexistence Mechanism.
When WPAN and WLAN devices are in same device, Collaborative method
exchanges information needed to coexistence considering data traffic
between them and Non-collaborative method consider only channel
characteristics of WPAN and WLAN without exchanging information
needed to coexistence.
802.15.3 is a standard for relatively high rate transfer(20Mbps
above) among WPAN. Also it defines new functions such as low price,
low power consumption, QoS guarantee suitable for multimedia application.
There are 3 Task Groups, 802.15.3a use UWB as PHY, 802.15.3e aims
to reinforced functions related to QoS and 802.15.3i is related
to security.
802.15.4 is a standard for relatively low rate transfer(250Kbps
below) on the contrary of 802.15.3. But it can last several years
with very long lasting battery by minimizing power consumption,
so this standard has been developed for sensor network, smart
tag, remote control, home automation.
These IEEE802.15 standards define only PHY and MAC. Alliances
based on these standards are ZigBee based on 802.15.4 and WiMedia
based on UWB. Their activities have increased remarkably to provide
ubiquitous environment.
